Ifakara Ltd. is replacing aid with development by providing managerial know how to development aid projects of private and public institutions.
With this know how transfer we foster the financial development, stability and sustainability of development cooperation projects and organizations in various fields. These may include social services. e.g. health care institutions, manufacturing. agriculture, and all kinds of social businesses.
Our vision is that in the long run aid will be replaced in a self-sustaining way by income in the projects supported by us.
Our mission is to empower people and organisations with management know how, thus enabling them to develop themselves and their organisations on their own in a self-sustaining way.
We support the Global Compact. We do this in our daily work, in our collaboration with our employees, our clients and our donors, because we have the strong belief that business activities need basic values to be sustainable.
Sustainability is the goal - "Udumishaji ndiyo lengo!" (Swahili).
Sustainable development is "the development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs" (from "Our Common Future - The Brundtland Report" of the World Commission on Environment & Development to the General Assembly of the United Nations on 11 December 1987).
Ifakara, May 2013
Lothar Jakab, Managing Director of Ifakara Limited Consultants, has facilitated the annual review and budgeting workshop of the Tanzanian Training Centre for International Health (TTCIH). During the workshop, the planning and reporting structure was elevated to the next level of development. I 2005, TTCIH started with a rough distinction between own courses and hosted courses in terms of service structure. Since then, TTCIH has built cnsiderable reputation, track record and expertise in distinct thematic areas, such as clinical training, community health or maternal & neonatal health. The new management approach for the phase of the next strategic plan will look at these thematic areas as strategic business units (SBU).
In addition, the annual accounts of 2012 show that with grants accounting for approximately 20% of total income only, TTCIH generated an operational surplus for the first time since depreciation was introduced to the accounts in 2008. Total income in 2012 was more than 1.8bn TZS, which corresponds to more than 1mn USD.
